16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?

1)

1.    The first way I believe I have human capital that makes me truly unique is having the technological skills I have acquired throughout my years of studying in university.

2.    The second way I believe I have human capital is having really good people skills and communication skills that will combine well with my technological skills. A lot of people may think it is about what you know, but it is also important how you interact with people.

3.    A third way I believe that I have human capital is having a strong work ethic that is always on. I think something that I do is just set my mind on one thing and then work on it until it is finished.

4.    A fourth thing is the experience I have at having worked in Texas instruments as an intern. I believe that this experience is really important as it showed me industry practices that improves my human capital.

5.    A fifth skill that I believe I have experience in is having really good presentation skills. Through several of my classes that I have taken and my internship I have had a lot of practice to know how to set up and prepare for my presentation.

3)

There are several differences between what I said and what my friends said. I think the biggest difference between how I see myself and my friends see me is that I do not notice that I am empathetic. I think this is just something that tends to happen when I am with people, while when I am by myself, I focus mostly on my studies and that is why I only see skills when it comes to that. There are clear differences between I assess myself and how my friends assess me as they seem to compliment my personality and emotional skills more than my academic skills. It is possible that I just do not show off my academic skills enough to make my friends notice or it is possible that my friends just see my emotional traits way more important than any other trait that I have. This is not the first time I have heard about being empathic so I think my interviewees are correct in saying that I have these emotional skills. If I had to do anything to go correct my list from part 1 then I believe I would just add an empathetic row to show how important my emotional traits are.

15A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

This time around for interviews I looked at school friends who go to the beach frequently. Giving the customers several different choices such as different sizes of Yeti containers and different sizes of coolers. Something that was noticeable was that many people acknowledge the high price of the yeti containers and how it would not be as beneficial to spend as much money to buy one container when you can spend the same for a good quality coolers that will hold several drinks. Several people would look at quality as an important trait of the item that they are buying but they prioritized convenience most of the time. One of the customers stated how that if they were going to the beach by themselves, a Yeti bottle would be perfectly fine for just themselves. The other two customers stated that if they were going with a large group then it would make more sense to bring a cooler for the entire group so there would be a variety of drink choice for the large group. All three customers stated that they would most likely buy the product at the store as they want to make sure that the quality. they chose was good and that it would actually be a convenient container that they could use at the beach. The person that is most involved in the purchase decision is the customer as target or whoever is selling this may just place it in their store, but the quality and convenience of the product has to sway the customer in purchasing this. The thing that matters the most to my customer when they think back on the ‘rightness’ of the purchase is whether or not it can help keep the drink cold for a long time. If the container they buy is not capable of keeping a drink at a correct temperature, then their purchase is a lost cause. Several things come into play when the three customers choose whether their product was a bad purchase such as the amount of time it keeps the drink at a correct temperature, how long the container itself lasts, and how convenient it is to carry around throughout the beach. These same things can be used in deciding whether or not a purchase was a good idea as this is the three main things this product has to do.

This segment has several different alternatives when it comes to this market. Their alternative evaluations though are mostly critical on how convenient the item they are looking at is compared to the other items. The purchase decision looks at quality and convenience as well as a beach person is going to want to make sure that their product is capable of handling any force that it might have to endure. The most important part of the post purchase evaluation is whether or not the drink can stay at a good temperature for a long time. The person will not be pleased if the drinks they carry to the beach are not still cold when they try to drink it. Another quality that is important is whether or not it is convenient, therefore the customer will be looking at whether or not it is convenient and the temperature of the drink is good to decide how whether or not the product was a good purchase.

14A – Halfway Reflection

Hi!

I am a student that has taken 2 months of ENT3003 and love it. If you want some advice for this class, I would say that the most important thing is to have a structured amount of time to allow yourself to finish the work of the week. You can have a block of 6 hours in 1 day to do everything or split it up to 20-minute sessions throughout the week as you have a lot of freedom throughout this class. A behavior that I created with keeping up with the requirements that this course has is creating a calendar of when I will be doing all of my assignments and assigning an estimated amount of time that it will take. I think this can help prevent you from falling behind or having to rush in any assignment and actually be able to learn content that the professor wants. Another behavior I was able to develop is trying to keep anything that will take your attention away from the current assignment to a minimum. I think that having to work on blogs is something that can get people to think of Facebook or twitter which will then in turn send them to those sites. To prevent myself from getting distracted, I would log out of all the things just to make sure that even if I forgot about my rule of trying to not go on one of them I would be able to remind myself once I tried to get onto the platform. I will be completely honest and state that the moment that I felt like giving up was the moment I was making a bug list. I think that this assignment is really different from most of the other assignments as it is something you have to be continuously thinking about for several days. I think that it being one of the first assignments is what pulled me through as I did not want to fail at such an early stage and I promise the future assignments are not all like that assignment. I think I honestly have created a tenacious attitude as there are moments when I would have rather gone to sleep but decided to work through even more and see if I could understand the assignment even more. From my experience, I think the first week is a pretty good way to be able to learn what you should and should not do for this class as there are many things you can do to prepare yourself for assignments and deadlines that are always approaching on you. One of the tips I would support to help you be more tenacious in this class is planning out with a calendar of any kind everything you have to do to be able to not overwhelm yourself. Another tip I have is not stressing over too much details at first. I would worry about the broader idea when it comes to a question and then after formulating an answer, I would think more deeper into the problem you have to solve to better develop your ideas. The last and final tip I have of having a tenacious mindset is actually watching the videos completely. I think the second you stop watching videos or even miss one video you are missing important information that may discourage you later on to watch even more videos.

Plan everything in this class and your work ethic will be great.

13A – Reading Reflection No. 1

Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonald’s, Ray Kroc

1) The thing that surprised me the most about the entrepreneur is the amount of problems Ray Kroc had to deal with throughout his life but still persevered. As he started off his early life selling paper cups, Kroc did not have an easy start and I would think many other people would fail far from what he accomplished. Kroc was able to see things others weren't as he was able to see the true potential the McDonald brothers had created and make it what it is today. His dedication is just something to be astonished by as he was constantly working throughout his life in a pursuit of creating a name for himself and it was not until he reached his 50s where he found his prized idea of working with the McDonald brothers. The thing I most admired of the entrepreneur was his motivation throughout his entire life. I think that the determination he had is not something a lot of people have. He did not come from a wealthy background and therefore had to push himself for the things he wanted. Every step he took, Kroc was becoming a better person in the business world and it was his next step in selling multimixers that then eventually brought him into finding his biggest idea of working with the McDonald brothers. The thing I least admired about Kroc was his personal relationships with many of the people he interacted with. Something that was astonishing was his lack of motivation for trying to treat people in a respectable way. Several examples given were his several commitment issues on his wives and how he treated the McDonald brothers when he first started out business with them. This entrepreneur definitely faced adversity and failures throughout his lifetime. His initial life started off with him selling paper cups to having to deal with personal life issues and also having several weeks throughout his life where he had to work an exorbitant amount of time. All these issues were issues he fought through as every time he found an alternate route and worked with what he had.

2) There are several competencies that I noticed the entrepreneur exhibited. One of the biggest competencies that I am continually mentioning is his perseverance. Kroc's life was not perfect from the start but his continuous motivation led him to working with the McDonald brothers and creating the franchise we know of today. Kroc also had a competency of having many ideas and dreams which is something an entrepreneur can use to create more products or services that will help people and sell.

3) One part of the reading that was confusing was the relationship between the McDonald brothers and Ray Kroc. One of the reasons that I find difficulty in seeing how they had differences yet were still accomplishing many things. Kroc had certain goals that were different from the McDonald's goals and it was his big ideas that allowed the two parties accomplish many things that would have never happened. The franchise would not have been as popular as it is today if it was not for his ideas yet the two parties had an interesting conflicting relationship between each other.

4) One of the questions I would ask Kroc is whether or not he believes that starting off with selling paper cups was one of the biggest reasons he was able to come up with greater ideas and if that is what eventually lead to him coming up with ideas to create the fast food restaurant that exists today. Another question I would ask is whether or not he would like the food that McDonald's serves today and whether or not he believes that it can be improved.

5) I think Kroc is a clear example of an entrepreneur who had a strong work ethic. For these reasons, I believe that the entrepreneur Kroc would support hard work and say that it is one of the main reasons he was able to have a successful life. I share this opinion as well as this is something I like to think I have. I think that having a hard work ethic can unlock several doors that would never be unlocked with ideas and dreams.

12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

The segment that I have chosen is people who go to the beach. For this, I interviewed three people who would be potential customers for this product. The first thing I prioritized was whether or not the customer legitimately had the need for this product. The unmet need would be wanting a drink at a specific temperature and not having it at that temperature. After I ensured that the people I was interviewing had this need, I interviewed them with several questions. The common solution to the issue that I presented to them was bringing ice to the beach but they mentioned that several issues could arise such as now having to carry a large and heavy unwanted container or also having to deal with ice melting before the day is even over. Other possible solutions that they searched for and found were containers such as the Yeti brand cups, but these solutions are very expensive alternatives. Several of the terms that a google search consisted of “Cold drinks” and “beach” which mostly had a solution of finding a good cooler. They talk to their friends for obvious reasons in trying to figure out what the best way is to getting cold drinks to a beach, whether or not it is worth the trouble in buying a cooler for the drinks to last or buying cold drinks at a shop and hoping they last at a good temperature for a long enough time. Another issue I was able to find out was the issue of not remembering to bring ice and therefore having to take another thirty minutes in getting ice from a shop. There are solutions to cold drink at a beach, but there are drawbacks to several of these solutions. Based on the interviews I had, the need awareness is high whenever the customer is planning on going to the beach. Several of the customers state how going to the beach on a hot day usually is what brings them into wanting a cold drink, therefore showing that the need awareness is high. Looking at information search results, one can see that this need is actually well noticed and there are solutions. These solutions that I searched up on the internet have their own drawbacks that people may not want to deal with. Overall, my product has a high need awareness and it also is a possible solution with low drawbacks that customers can benefit from.

11A – Idea Napkin No. 1 Submit Assignment

1)    I am Santiago Clavijo-Gomez and I am a student at the University of Florida. I major in computer engineering and I am also a rising senior. I have real life experience with my specific major as I have interned in software engineering for Texas Instruments. Through personal experience, I believe that I am quite resourceful and great with working in teams. Specific aspirations I have that pertain to this business is using my college education to make an efficient piece of technology at a low-cost to manufacture. I also hope to have this company go nationwide where it is seen as a technology driven company to help satisfy people.

2)    The product I am offering is a device that will act as a handle to a cup and control the temperature of the liquid. This device will be capable of easily changing sizes to fit any kind of cup and allow the owner to easily travel with it. With this device, I can now help the customers’ unmet need of not being able to have a drink at a temperature they want.

3)    The specific demographic of people that I am trying to target can include people who are interested in traveling and people taking breaks throughout the day that are not near any electrical sources. The reasons that I am targeting these specific people is that they can benefit from having a device that is transportable. The common issue that most of these people have is that they want to be satisfied while they are either traveling or away from main sources of power and therefore this transportable device can help.

4)    Customers will actually pay me money as there are not a lot of devices that can help them control the temperature of their drinks. A common problem of being outside a building is not having a drink at the correct temperature a person wants. There is a device that can help keep a drink at a consistent temperature, but this is only beneficial if the drink is at the correct temperature. The device I am proposing will help correct the temperature of the drink.

5)    Certain things that separates me from everyone else is my experience with working in the technological realm and experience in traveling several times without a easy way of controlling my drinks temperature. My device is also not a container itself and therefore does not need any cleaning at all. The cost of the device would not be too high compared to the expensive containers that are used to keep the temperature of the drink consistent as well.

Altogether, I believe that many of my elements work together well. If there is a specific element that is weak then I believe that would include my demographics as it includes people who are traveling and trying to take a break, but it does not include too many other groups as well. The device I have created will be easy to use and small, which is why it is perfect for people who want to travel and take breaks. If anything, I can make two types of handles: one that holds cups and one that is an actual container that will hold liquids. I think splitting up into two types of devices will raise more attraction to people who want easy ways to warm up or cool something they have.

9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

In the last “Testing the Opportunity Hypothesis” I discussed the opportunity of creating a product that can lower the temperature of a drink without changing the taste. After interviewing family friends, coworkers, and school friend, I was able to get a better grasp in understanding what the outside boundary consists of.

Who: The specific group that I was able to find that did not fall inside the boundaries is people who are vacationing or just traveling across the world. Reasons that were given include not wanting to bring things that were not necessary on their trip, having issues such as charging the device in another country, or losing the device as it can be put on a drink and someone will easily forget about it. Another person who does not fit in the boundary as well also consists of people who are saving money, as they can deal with room temperature drinks or use ice and deal with watered down drinks.

What: This need is different than that of others who may just want to drink because they are thirsty. My need prioritizes satisfying oneself in small events such as drinking a cold glass of water. This priority of satisfaction therefore shows that this need is only important if people are trying to satisfy themselves and have a better day. There is a difference between this and being thirsty, as people will always be thirsty but they can live without being picky and having cold drinks.

Why: The underlying need is not different for the group outside the boundary. Both people inside the boundary and outside the boundary have a need of wanting to be satisfied. This specific need is geared towards drinks and people's preferences. People will always want to have the ability to change their drink to a colder drink or warmer drink and this therefore makes the need universally applicable.

Who is in

People who want to go to the beach, picnic, or want to go on 1 day trips. People who want want drinks to have the correct taste.
Who is not

People who have long travels and people who are saving money as this is not a significant issue people will spend money on.
The need is to have drinks at a satisfying temperature.
The need is not the thirst of the person, as people can drink and survive yet not have the drink at the right temperature.
The need exists because people want to be satisfied, even in things that are as small as drinks.
This is not a need if people are looking for convenience in travel. If people prioritize convenience over pleasure then this is not a need.

The biggest finding I found from doing this assignment is that there are certain reasons why people would not be interested in buying this product. One of the reasons it that the inconvenience outweighs the satisfaction that a product like this may bring. A person may not want to be carrying around a handle that is going to change the temperature a drink everywhere they go and therefore would just rather have a drink at an incorrect temperature. Another interesting barrier preventing people from buying this product is that people will prioritize saving money over satisfaction, which is a significant enough reason not to get this product. Overall this assignment taught me to be more aware of reasons why people would not be interested in my product.

8A – Solving The Problem Submit Assignment

The past problem I identified is ice melting in drinks, which starts watering them down and changing their taste. The opportunity I have is solving this issue that people face when they want a cold drink, but the taste does not stay consistent. The possible solution I have considered is creating a circular handle that can go around the cup or container that is holding the liquid. This handle will be able to control the temperature of the inside liquid and can be changed according to the preferences of the person who is drinking. Another feature I am considering including is allowing the circular portion of the handle to be capable of being resized to fit the specific size needed to hold an assortment of containers and cups. A simple way to imagine this product is imagining a cup with no handle and the device being added. With the combination of the cup and device, the two form a type of mug like container that can change temperatures depending on what the handle’s settings are at. With this mug like container, the person is now capable of having a drink without it changing taste or temperature easily. This product would use batteries and would cost around $10-20 depending on the price of the technology that is needed to make this. I think that this could be used well in situations like picnics and beach adventures, as people may need to get their drink cool and not have a fridge with them.
